Building on the results of work at the same site in October 2024, join AOC Archaeology Group in returning to Adie’s Brae to uncover more of the story!
Previous work confirmed that the site is indeed a scooped settlement dating to the Iron Age, with the remains of at least two roundhouses within an enclosing bank. View a summary of the results from work at Adie’s Brae in 2024.
This is an opportunity to get hands-on experience and training in excavation, recording, and survey techniques while contributing to significant research questions. No experience is required; all tools and training will be provided.
We will meet in Moffat town centre in the mornings; parking at site is limited so we will be offering transport and encouraging car sharing wherever possible. More details to follow.
Excavations will run from 10am to 3pm, from Monday 20th April to Friday 1st May 2026 (not onsite on Sunday 26th April). You are welcome to join for one day or multiple days, though we recommend signing up for a few consecutive days if you can, to get a chance to be involved in different parts of the excavation and recording process.
Access: we will meet in Moffat and provide transport/encourage car sharing to site. The site is in an upland location. Be prepared for a 5 minute walk from the parking with rough and uneven ground conditions underfoot on site. A tent will be available for shelter, and there is a composting toilet a short walk from site. Public toilets are also available at the meeting point in Moffat at the start and end of the day.
