The St Cuthbert’s Chapel Landscape project will examine the landscape in and around the site of St Cuthbert’s Chapel. The ruined chapel dates to the late 18th to 19th century, but potentially incorporating re-used medieval stones. The area south of the confluence of the River Tweed and River Till where the chapel sits has a rich and continuous history of human activity, spanning from the prehistoric era through to the post-medieval period including cropmarks depicting prehistoric enclosures, a deserted medieval settlement and other features. The project will comprise historic building survey of the chapel, mapping and desk-based research workshops and non-intrusive geophysical survey of features such as the deserted medieval village in the wider environs of the site.
Please keep an eye on the events calendar, or join the Uncovering the Tweed mailing list, to find out about further opportunities for participation.
