Following the success of its inaugural event in 2025, the Newstead Sundials Festival returns on Sunday 6 September 2026, promising an even bigger celebration of the village’s rich heritage, creativity and community spirit.

Set at the foot of the Eildon Hills on the banks of the River Tweed, Newstead is home to Trimontium, one of Britain’s most significant Roman fortified sites. The festival celebrates the village’s fascinating history, including its connections to the skilled stonemasons who helped build Melrose Abbey and whose distinctive sundials can still be seen on homes throughout the village.

Visitors can enjoy a packed programme of guided walks, talks, exhibitions, workshops and family-friendly activities, alongside food, music and entertainment throughout the day.

  • A new Medieval Stage, supported by Historic Environment Scotland, featuring talks on Melrose Abbey, stone-carving demonstrations and family activities.
