Get Involved with Test-pitting
As part of our investigation of the prehistory of Paxton we will be undertaking test pitting along the field margins to see if we can identify any new lithics and record their location.
The test-pitting will take place on 3 days: Wednesday 23rd, Thursday 24th and Friday 25th of April 10am-3pm.
We will be heading out to excavate small test pits at Paxton and looking to record new lithics findspots. By mapping distributions and densities of the finds we aim to locate any concentrations of lithics which could indicate the presence of underlying features or archaeological sites.
Come along to the excavation for an introduction to excavation and lithic identification, training will be provided. You can come for one day for a taster to see what it’s al about or book in for all three!
Please note that places are limited for the test pitting days, but rest assured there will be more opportunities to get involved in excavations in the near future. Hope to see you there!
