Tweed River Festival 2026 : Pre – Festival Walk

Planning your journey to Melrose for Tweed River Festival 2026? Join Hike & Bike Hub Galashiels for a pre-festival walk along the River Tweed! We’ll gather at Tweedbank Station and walk together: following the Tweed, passing Skirmish Hill, and arriving at Melrose in time for the start of the festival!

This walk is ideal for those planning to get the train from Edinburgh that arrives at 8:45am at Tweedbank, though of course, anyone is welcome to join at the muster point.

In keeping with the Tweed River Festival 2026 theme, we invite you to begin your day passing under trees, over ground alongside the banks of the Tweed, round the outskirts of Melrose, and through the town centre to the Melrose Corn Exchange, where the festival will be held.

Access

The walk will consist of a mix of surfaces including tarmac, compacted mud and grass. Depending on the weather, it may be muddy and slippy underfoot. There are short sections of descent and ascent where the surface may be uneven. Sturdy footwear and weather-appropriate clothing are advised.
