As part of the programme of events for the Uncovering the Tweed project, AOC Archaeology Group will be holding a site visit to Whytbank Tower.
The site visit will include discussion about the tower houses and peel towers of the region in general and how we would go about recording these buildings and understanding them. There will be training in photographing historic buildings as well as an introduction to buildings archaeology in general, and the analytical ways we can record historic structures.
Full training will be given on the day, no experience necessary.
Welfare is available at the public toilets in Galashiels before and after the event. The site is in an upland location involving walking on uneven ground for a c. 30 minute walk so participants are advised to bring sturdy boots and waterproofs as well as lunch and water.
Booked participants will meet at Stirling Street carpark in Galashiels (pay and display carpark near the train station) to carshare to the sites. More details on where to meet and what to bring will be sent out to booked participants nearer the time. We will return to Galashiels after the field visit.
