Tweed Stories invited people to explore a giant map of the River Tweed and share their memories and special places at our ‘Tales from the Riverbank’ event at Innerleithen Memorial Hall on Saturday 9th May 2026. Here’s what they told us:
Beattock: Beattock Bash – family friendly music festival.
Source of the Tweed: Fast cars on the road and wet feet, but worth it to find the source!
Tweedsmuir: I came the pretty way on holiday – prettier (and longer!) than I imagined. Missed the cheese scones – going back again!
Cardrona: Ellie told us… Granny and grandpa are at our house in Cardrona. They have come from Aboyne in Aberdeenshire. (drawn below on the pink post-it)
Peebles: The Quarry! Camping, quad bikes, offroad driving.
Glentress: Loving the swoopy blue MTB trail at Glentress!
Cardrona: We live here! (Check out the brilliant drawing that went with this one)
Walkerburn: Amazing wildlife in Walkerburn. Saw otters, little egrets, kingfishers. Now ducklings are there and heard a cuckoo nearby.
Leaderfoot Viaduct: Driving down to Tweed Forum office at Old Melrose – over the Tweed and an epic view! Loved by Walter Scott…
Dryburgh Abbey: A beautiful walk from Melrose to Kelso along the river, with a visit to the fabulous Dryburgh Abbey.
Tales of the Riverbank was a joint Tweed Stories and Riverwoods event celebrating the Tweed and its riverside woodlands, held in Innerleithen in May 2026.
