What a Romantic River – canoeing in the ice at winter time with my husband-to-be. [Peebles and Neidpath]
In the 1980s I paddled down the Tweed from Peebles to the sea. It took me two days. The Tweed Canoe Club, based in Galashiels, meets in a pond at Tweedbank to teach young people to canoe.
Back in the late 1960s, my 16-year-old brother-in-law came to the Tweed on holiday with the family. He was bored so he borrowed a rowing boat and rowed the Whiteadder, the Blackadder and all the way to the sea at Berwick! There was no health and safety back then. He was quite a character and much missed.
