We lived by the river Tweed at a village called Lennel, downstream from Coldstream. The river and its banks were our playground in the summer and on a warm evening we would wait excitedly till our father got home, him dusty and tired from a hard days work we would then all head down “the brae’ to swim in the river, my father soap in hand would wade into the river and wash off his working day then we would all enjoy the next hour swimming, skimming stones and enjoying our father’s company it’s such a lovely memory to have. Our mother would sit on the bank of the Tweed watching us on a blanket with a flask of tea and some sandwiches, she actually couldn’t swim despite having lived by the river all her life but that’s another story!
Simple pleasures, wonderful memories.
