I knew a local who used to do an awful lot of poaching, and a certain policeman in Peebles was always trying to catch him.
He was coming along the street on his bike, and the policeman spied him with a big parcel under his arm. And he says, ‘What have you got in the parcel?’
‘Fish.’
‘Right. Down to the Polis Office.’
And he opens up the parcel, and he’s got a couple of cods heads!
He’d been along to the fishmonger to get fish to feed the cats at the Mill.
