Peebles Bowling Club meets on Mondays and Thursdays and finishes at 12.15. I am a full time carer for my wife, but I go to the bowling club then cycle across the Peebles rugby fields and hide my bike in the wood. Then I sit beside the river, opposite Kings Meadow woodland, with my Book of British Wildlife, and I read, look and listen for a while. It is so relaxing, and the perfect relief for a stressed carer.
During a difficult time, I would walk down the Tweed [near Drumelzier] and sit and watch the water, to help slow things down and be still in amongst the flow and currents.
This [Stobo] is where I saw the kingfisher!
These stories were shared with us during the 2026 Merlindale Nature Festival, held near Drumelzier on Saturday 1 August 2026. With thanks to everyone who added their stories to our giant River Tweed map.
