The Secret Waterfall

The Secret Waterfall

It is a forest glade. A beam of light pours down into the canyon like a giant spotlight illuminating the children’s performance of swimming and spraying each other with water. Their giggling voices intensified by the echo bouncing from its 360 sides which are decorated in living, textured green wallpaper. I’m distracted as the children swim over to the left of this scene. There’s a waterfall gently cascading down and showering them in cool, clear, lightly frothed water from above. Variegated ivy mainly trails down the sides of the waterfall broken up by a few lush ferns.

On the bottom of the canyon my whole scene is framed by trees on each side of me. On my right is a Chestnut tree, it must be very old as it’s nearly the same height as the canyon. I can tell it’s very happy there as all of its typical hand shaped leaves are well opened and coverage is even. It’s a beautiful healthy tree. On my left are two elm trees. They must be really ancient as they are hunched over a little and woven in ivy like two old women in their winter coats having a chat. It is known that Elms provide protection from ill so they are perfectly placed to protect bathers who visit here. I remove my mobile from my pocket and capture this scene.

The secret waterfall is ‘Stichill Linn’ which flows into the Eden Water which joins ‘The River Tweed’.
