Help Borders Forest Trust at their 2nd annual Big Bag Carry Down!
While they now use biodegradable tree guards, when we started planting 25 years ago plastic tubes were the only way to protect trees. Now, with the trees establishing as a woodland, they are removing the plastic tubes so they can be recycled, allowing the woodlands to flourish plastic-free. Volunteers have already removed 35,000 tree tubes, but many of these tubes are in bags along the footpaths at Corehead. Inaccessible by vehicle – Borders Forest Trust need help carrying these bags of tubes down from Tweedhope Valley and the Beeftub to a location where they can collect them in a trailer.
Meet at 10am at Corehead car park and finish up at about 3.30pm. Reasonable levels of fitness are required for this task. Wear clothes you don’t mind getting dirty and bring work gloves if you have them (we will also have plenty available for you to borrow.) Please bring a packed lunch, and something to drink with you.
