Join AOC Archaeology Group for this free 2-day practical survey course at Birgham, near Coldstream, focussed on exploring, investigating and recording the historic Birgham Cemetery.
The survey will focus primarily on recording the historic gravestones and grave slabs that survive within this historic cemetery, some of which date back to the 17th century, using the widely recognised Mytum system as well as detailed photography and photogrammetry. We will also be doing a detailed topographic survey of the cemetery using GPS survey and (weather permitting!) UAV survey, and will also provide a workshop on the importance of recording historic graveyard sites and gravestone symbolism.
Full training will be given on the days, no experience necessary other than sturdy boots and an enthusiasm for learning more about the survey and recording of graveyards and new and innovative approaches to doing so.
