The brand new logo for the River Tweed Trail was unveiled yesterday by Scotland’s Deputy First Minister, Kate Forbes during a visit to Tweed Forum’s office at Old Melrose.

The brand will be used in Trail signage and interpretation boards along the route and in physical and online marketing materials promoting it. The design centres around a large letter ‘T’ featuring a ‘V’ pattern inspired by shapes found in nature on and around the river, from the graceful wake of birds and boats on the water to the intricate patterns on feathers and leaves.

The brand’s primary colour palette reflects the changing landscape along the River Tweed Trail.  Estuary Blue and River Blue represent the river’s meandering journey from source to sea while Trail Green and Leaf Green connect the river to the stunning surroundings that border it.  The bold, modern typeface is designed to catch attention creating an engaging and dynamic brand. The new brand was created by Edinburgh-based design agency, Bright.

Destination Tweed Project Director, Luke Fisher said; “We’re delighted that the new River Tweed Trail brand has now been unveiled.  Its bold and impactful design celebrates the natural environment along the Tweed as well as the river’s connection to the communities, attractions and sites associated with the area’s rich natural and cultural heritage. We think it will have broad appeal and help us to showcase the Trail as a sustainable, world-class attraction that will provide a unique and enriching experience for locals and visitors alike.”

The River Tweed Trail

The River Tweed Trail is a 113-mile source-to-sea walking and cycling route which forms the centrepiece of the £25 million Destination Tweed river restoration project and is expected to be completed in 2028. The River Tweed Trail will run from Moffat, past the source of the Tweed and on to Berwick Upon Tweed where the river meets the sea. The route is being developed alongside 12 cultural, river and landscape enhancement projects, designed to preserve and enhance the river environment, share its stories with locals and visitors and create a world-class visitor attraction for the South of Scotland and north Northumberland.
